Hire Next.js developers

Our senior Next.js developers build production apps with the App Router, React Server Components and edge-ready data fetching. Each one is tested on the server/client boundary, where AI models are most often confidently wrong.

What changed about working in Next.js

01

Server components shifted where logic lives

React Server Components moved data fetching and sensitive logic out of the browser, and engineers now have to reason carefully about what runs where. AI tools frequently suggest the wrong boundary, so developers who rely on them without checking introduce subtle bugs that are hard to trace.

02

The App Router rewrote routing conventions

Next.js 13 and later replaced the Pages Router with a file-system model built around layouts, loading states, and nested routes, and the two conventions don't compose. Engineers trained mostly on older patterns, or guided by a model trained on mixed-era docs, tend to reach for the wrong primitives.

03

Caching rules are now explicit and consequential

The App Router makes caching opt-in or opt-out at the fetch level, the segment level, and the route level, so a wrong assumption produces either stale data in production or unnecessarily slow responses. AI-generated fetch calls regularly omit or misapply these directives, and a developer has to know when to override the output.

What we test for

How we assess Next.js developers

Every engineer works through a fundamentals assessment with AI tools switched off and a second assessment with their own agents running. For Next.js developers, these criteria carry the most weight.

Technical understanding

In the fundamentals assessment, engineers work in a real Next.js codebase and have to explain where each piece of logic belongs (server component, client component, route handler or middleware) and why.

AI output verification

In the second assessment, engineers get a task touching the server/client boundary. We watch whether they accept the model's component boundary suggestions or catch and correct the misplacement before shipping.

Debugging

The fundamentals assessment includes a broken App Router codebase where a caching directive and a 'use client' boundary interact incorrectly, and the engineer has to locate and fix the issue without AI assistance.

Questions about hiring Next.js developers

How senior are the Next.js developers you place?

The Next.js developers we put forward are senior, with 6+ years' experience on average, and they've shipped and maintained production systems in Next.js. Every one has passed both assessments, and you see both scorecards before you meet them.

How do you test Next.js specifically?

Assessment 1 puts engineers inside a real Next.js codebase with AI tools off, where we check server/client boundaries, caching directives and routing conventions. Assessment 2 adds their own AI agents, and we watch whether they catch the boundary and caching mistakes models commonly produce.

How quickly can a Next.js developer start?

You'll have a shortlist within five working days of briefing us, and the developer can typically make their first commit within three weeks from that point. Engagements are full-time with a three-month minimum.

What does a Next.js developer cost?

You pay a fixed monthly fee of €5,600 to €8,000 per full-time engineer, with employment, payroll and compliance included and no recruitment fee. The pricing page compares it with the all-in cost of a senior local hire in your country. Engagements are full-time with a three-month minimum, and if a placement doesn't work out, we replace them at our cost.

Do they use our tools and codebase or work separately?

They work inside your tools, your repository and your deployment pipeline from day one. They're full-time on your team for the whole engagement.
